"You walked right by it!"
Sometimes people expect photographs to be created in a defined, linear, and controlled sort of way. I break the rules when it appears the “rule” isn’t working, why not try it another way? If you are going to photograph a shell, why not one that is dancing against the sun-drenched sky, why not one that was sculpted into a now well-worn concrete path?
I am drawn to photograph subjects that tug at me as if I can’t breathe if I don’t preserve them for a canvas. When a particular subject captures my attention I just stop - and look at the subject from every angle, searching for just the right light and “framing with my feet”. Eventually a decision is made, yes, this is what I want to capture. Later, people may say oh, that’s different, where was it? I murmur with a smile - you walked right by it!
My photographs have been shown at juried and member art shows including: Hull Lifesaving Museum’s Juried Regional Annual Sea & Sky Art Show, 2015, 2016 and 2018; Scituate Arts Association/Front Street Art Gallery’s Annual Juried Show 2013, Third place; Plymouth Art Guild’s Late Summer Show 2016-Honorable Mention and 49th Annual Juried Art Show 2016; North River Arts Society’s Annual Juried Photography Show 2016; and South Shore Art Center’s National Juried Art Show 2016 “Out of Order”.
My photographs are in private collections. As a solo exhibitor, my photographs can be viewed at various venues. Publications include my interview and photograph "Frosty Beach Path" for the January 2018 issue of South Shore Living's column "Last Scene Here".
